The Tui (Prosthemadera novaeseelandiae) is an iconic, large territorial nectar-feeding songbird. It is endemic to NZ and is one of the few species that can successfully compete against invasive species such as the Myna. It is one of the most common endemic species to be found in the garden, and it has a delightful range of song. They are often seen among flax flowers, as this one I photographed on Waiheke island is.
